Mast compromise

by isleofman.com 9th May 2007
A planning row over a mobile phone mast in Dalby has ended in compromise.

Manx Telecom had wanted a 36 metre pole with a transmission dish and small cabin in a field in Ballnalargy.

But Manx National Heritage had objected to the mast being sited there, saying it would intrude on the landscape.

But the organisation withdrew its objections after MT agreed to remove some other masts.

Jason Roberts reports:

(Text of attached audio)
DLGE Minister John Shimmin said he would back the decision of the planning committee to grant permission if a large trellis mast at the Arrasey Plantation was removed.

Manx Telecom says it’s now in the process of doing that and Mr Shimmin said he would grant planning permission for the Dalby site.

Manx National Heritage says the removal of the Arrasey mast makes up for the new scheme and so has withdrawn its objections.

And after disagreement about whether the mast should be painted green or grey, planning inspector David Ward said a plain galvanised finish or matt grey should be used.
