Prisoner Escorts Bill progresses

The Prisoner Escorts Bill could lead to the transportation of inmates and defendents being put out to private tender.

That's according to Peel MHK Tim Crookall, who says the aim of the bill is to provide the most cost-effective method.

It received unanimous backing at its second reading in the House of Keys, although Onchan MHK Peter Karran said the bill was all about avoiding increases to the government employee list.

Mr Crookall (pictured) says that could be seen as a factor, but there would be other benefits:
