Kirk Michael land swap

by isleofman.com 8th May 2007
The people or Kirk Michael are to be consulted over the possibility of a land exchange between the Department of Education and Heritage Homes.

The Department has been approached by the developer with a suggestion that it would give up land to the south of the school in return for a bigger area to the north and east.

This would allow the provision of a proper football pitch to the rear of the school together with a new playground and give space for possible future expansion of the school.

In return, it is understood Heritage Homes would receive land which could be more readily developed for housing in the village. In February last year the developer revealed plans to build approximately 90 properties on around 13 acres of land.

It also wanted to use part of the school land for an access road with a roundabout on Douglas road corner.

Education Minister Anne Craine calls it an "interesting opportunity for the future development of the school and one that should be seriously considered " but adds that it's important that the views of those living in the community are obtained before any decision is made.

A public presentation will be held at the school on Thursday May 17th from 3pm to 7.30pm and it's hoped that as many parents and residents as possible will attend and give their views.
