The vast majority of people feel safe living in the Isle of Man.That's the claim of the latest Community Satisfaction survey for the Isle of Man Constabulary which is released today.98% of respondents said they felt safe living on the Isle of Man, and 90% of respondents are satisfied with the level of service provided by the constabulary. However, the figures also show that 81% of respondents believe that Crime in the Isle of Man is increasing, and 59% of people who are dissatisfied with the level of policing believe it's because they don't see enough police around.Stuart Peters reports:(Text of attached audio)One thousand residents were surveyed during January of this year. The headline figures are broadly positive and show that the vast majority of people still regard the Isle of Man as a safe place to live, have confidence in the police, and believe the force has a good relationship with the public. However, there are areas of concern. The number of respondents worried about being assaulted has risen 20% since the last survey in 2003, and there's been a 14% rise (to 23%) in those concened about burglary.Car theft or damage to cars also remains a concern for 44% of respondents. The constabulary is also likely to be concerned over an apparent reluctance among the populace to report crime when they see it, and despite a proactive policy to promote neighbourhood policing, 79% of respondents didn't know the local inspector working in their area either by name or face.
