Warning to employers

The Employer’s Federation says any company paying less than its minimum wages for construction work would not be able to work for the government.

Claims surfaced this week that labourers at the new prison site in Jurby (pictured) had been laid off while lower-paid Polish staff had been kept.

But the Federation says in order to work on government contracts, firms need to be on its approved list – and therefore has to pay workers according to its rules.

Louise Furniss says if they break the rules, firms can be taken off the list:
