Cannabis man gets suspended sentence

by isleofman.com 2nd May 2007
A 17 year old man who admitted possessing cannabis resin with intent to supply has been given a nine month prison sentence suspended for two years by Deemster Doyle.

Thomas James Crozier, of Hillside Avenue, Douglas, appeared for sentence after admitting the offence.

Linda Watt, prosecuting said police were informed on June 22nd by a member of the public that they had found a bag containing what they thought were drugs in a lane in Onchan.

Police took possession of the bag which contained three full nine ounce bars of resin, and one which had been cut.

The defendant was subsequently arrested on June 28th

He denied all knowledge of the drugs, but his fingerprints were found on the bag and resin.

His advocate Aalish Hannan said the defendant only had the drug for a short period, and he had agreed to hand it over to another person he declined to name. When he went to collect the drug to hand over it was missing. He now regretted his actions

Deemster Doyle told Crozier that he was going to give him a chance with a suspended sentence. He was taking into account his age and the fact there were no previous convictions. The aggravating fact was that he was the facilitator.

He warned Crozier that he wouldn't be shown any leniency if he breached the suspended sentence.
