Union boss alleges exploitation

A Trade Union representative has labelled moves to let International Hotel School students stay here to work until after the TT period as "appalling" and "exploitative".

Bernard Moffatt of Unite (formerly the Transport and General Workers Union) says it shows the Isle of Man's labour market has become dependent on foreign students as a cheap source of labour.

There has been much concern that if the students have to leave in the next three weeks, as they were originally told after the school's collapse, the Island's service and retail industries will be short staffed over the Centenary TT fortnight

But Mr Moffatt says their long term futures need to be sorted out:
