New chairmen elected

Social worker Tim Norton has been elected the new chairman of Onchan Commissioners.

He succeeds retired police officer, Derek Crellin, who has completed his year-long term of office.

Ellis Killey was chosen as the vice-chairman at last night’s annual meeting.

Elsewhere, in Ramsey, Mary Bruce was elected chairman, with George Skillicorn as deputy, and Paul Kennaugh is the new chairman in Castletown with Richard Ronan elected as vice-chairman.

In the west of the Island Mrs Pat Sweeney is the new chair of Peel Commissioners with Thelma Birkett as vice chair.

It was announced in March, that Councillor Colin Cain would take over as Mayor of Douglas, succeeding Councillor Betty Quirk.

Mr Cain, who serves the Derby Ward, is an Assistant Delivery Manager with Isle of Man Post.
