Manslaughter trial next year

by isleofman.com 1st May 2007
Two men charged with manslaughter in connection with the death of a teenage cyclist won't stand trial until next year.

Forty-six year old Phillip Alexander Firth, of Glen Road, Laxey and David Martin Jones, aged 51, of Coburg Road in Ramsey, deny 'unlawfully and feloniously' killing 13 year-old James Berry in December 2005.

The men are accused of failing to maintain their Leyland Daf wagon to a roadworthy condition and then using the vehicle.

It is alleged this amounted to gross negligence and caused the death of James Berry.

Their trial is expected to last four weeks, and is due to start on February 4, 2008.
