Lifetime award for firefighter

A retired long-serving firefighter who received a rare lifetime achievement award has dedicated the honour to the Island’s fire and rescue service.

Mike Ventre from Onchan was presented with the Lifetime Achievement Award, for services to the 'fire community', at the annual Spirit of Fire award ceremony in Cambridge.

Mike, described by the Island's Chief Fire Officer, Brian Draper, as 'the grandfather of the fire service', says he’s thrilled.

And he admits the award came as a complete surprise:
