New candidate for Legislative Council

by isleofman.com 27th April 2007
A new candidate has emerged for the seventh round of voting to fill the vacant seat on the Legislative Council.

He is David Saunders, the Head of the Isle of Man Bank's Premium Banking Division, and Chairman of Lombard Manx Limited.

Mr Saunders was nominated by Rushen MHK Phil Gawne, whose Private Member's Bill to speed up the election process is down for first reading in the House of Keys next week.

Mr Gawne says Mr Saunders has played an active role in the social and business life of the Island for the past four decades, and has the skills and commitment to provide rigorous and effective scrutiny of the business of the Government and Tynwald.

Nominations for the election close at 5pm today (Friday), and polling will be on Tuesday, May 8th.
