Beach litter almost doubled

The amount of litter on beaches has increased by 90.3% in the last 13 years.

This startling figure is contained in the latest report by the Marine Conservation Society.

Now there's another move on the Island to try and tackle the problem.

"Beach Buddies" is an initiative set up by well known photographer Bill Dale . . Sandy Huyton and her son Callum, to try and clean up beaches which aren't currently being attended by local authorities.

The work is currently taking place in the north and the west of the Island, and Bill says a lot of the litter they collect has been dropped by individuals, not dumped by commercial concerns:
