New scallop boat trial

by isleofman.com 24th April 2007
A new scallop fishing boat which could revolutionise the industry will be trialled in Manx waters tomorrow (Wednesday) and Thursday.

The prototype "hydro-dredge" vessel uses water pressure to displace scallops from the seabed, rather than metal teeth, which will hopefully reduce operating costs and environmental impact.

Island-based scallop fishermen are being invited to join the trial and see the technique first hand.

Sea Fisheries Development Manager Andy Reid is keeping his fingers crossed for the boat's success:

Any scallop fishermen who want to take part in the trial should contact Andy Reid on 686045.
