Runway extension in spotlight

by isleofman.com 21st April 2007
An Onchan MHK will persist with the issue of the proposed Ronaldsway runway extension in next week's House of Keys questions.

Peter Karran says planning consent for the project has been given based on inaccurate runway lengths.

Edward Oldham reports (audio file attached):

Mr Karran will ask Transport Minister David Anderson whether his department will re-apppraise the proposals and consider scrapping the eastern extension into the sea altogether.

He also has a question for Treasury Minister, Allan Bell, about the project's business plan.

In last week's Tynwald questions, Mr Karran accused the President, Noel Cringle, of acting on behalf of the establishment when some of his questions about the extension were disallowed.

The President told Mr Karran the matter was currently undergoing a planning appeal and as such, he was out of order in pursuing it.
