Prison sentence suspended

by isleofman.com 19th April 2007
A thirty one year old man who assaulted a juvenile who, it is alleged, was bullying his son, has been given a two month prison sentence suspended for two years by the High Bailiff.

Charles Edward Omar, of Ocean Castle Drive, Port Erin, was convicted of the assault after a hearing.

His advocate Steven Woods said the defendant was on his way out with his family in Colby when his son pointed out the sixteen year old. He claimed he was the one who was bullying him

Omar stopped and punched the boy, who hit back at Mr Omar, breaking his nose.

Mr Omar said he deeply regretted getting involved, but he felt he had to protect his son who had problems with bullying. He accepted he should have driven away.

Mr Moyle said it was an unsavoury incident, but there were very strong mitigating factors allowing him to suspend the sentence.

He ordered ?250 compensation be paid, with costs of ?510
