Island's licenced trade praised

by isleofman.com 19th April 2007
The Island's pub and brewery industry has received a fantastic write up in an article on the website of trade newspaper 'The Publican' .

It describes our pub market as unique and says the UK could learn a thing or two from it, especially when it comes to opening hours and working closely with the police.

Journalist Nick Yates says in the UK, Daily Mail journalists seem to have been crossing their fingers in the hope that later licensing will trigger social meltdown.

But he points to the Isle of Man, saying alcohol-related assaults have dropped significantly here since the introduction of 24-hour licensing, some four years before the UK and hopes it could provide a forecast for how later licensing will pan out there.

The Island's Pure Beer Act is also praised and says it's used as a valuable marketing tool by the brewers here.
