Comments on the Virginia shootings

by isleofman.com 18th April 2007
A leading firearms authority in the Isle of Man says gun restrictions would do nothing to prevent further shooting sprees like the one at Virginia Tech in the United States.

Stewart Watterson is Secretary of the Isle of Man Target Association and sits on the Firearms Consultation Group.

In the UK, handguns were outlawed after the Dunblane shootings in 1996 - but they remain legal here.

Mr Watterson says the measures did not prevent the violent use of guns: (clip 1)

Ian Schoenberger is a Californian now settled in the Isle of Man.

He was raised with firearms in the home - and sees guns as a normal part of American life.

Ian says the debate over gun ownership ignores the real issue in the tragedy: (clip 2)
