Test for foreign nationals coming soon

by isleofman.com 18th April 2007
From early next month foreign nationals from outside the European Union who make a permanent move to the Isle of Man will have to prove they know about our laws, politics and traditions.

People seeking an indefinite stay here will have to pass a Citizenship Test, to establish their knowledge of the Island and their ability to understand English, or undertake a course about English and Citizenship.

Those who fail the test will be given time to achieve the required standard, rather than having to leave the Island immediately.

The rules are in line with new settlement requirements in the United Kingdom, and will be introduced on May 8.
