Mepham - suspended sentence

A 39 year old woman has been given a 60 day prison sentence suspended for two years by the High Bailiff.

Anne Muriel Mepham of Auburn Road, Onchan, admitted drink-driving when she appeared for sentence.

The defendant was arrested at 10.45 am on February 8th on King Edward Road, Onchan, after police acted on a tip-off.

Blood samples showed an alcohol reading of 266 milligrammes. The legal limit is 80mg.

Her advocate, Ian Wood, said the defendant had been celebrating the previous evening after moving into a new house and with a new partner.

The defendant had suffered two bereavements, both her husband and her mother, which led to alcohol tolerance.

Mr Moyle also imposed a fine of ?750 and banned Mepham from driving for 3? years.
