Coastguard weekend

by isleofman.com 16th April 2007
Douglas coastguard had a busy weekend.

Yesterday morning (Sun) Douglas lifeboat towed a broken down cabin cruiser into Douglas harbour, and coastguard officers on routine patrol were diverted to meet the vessel to check the crew were OK.

An hour later Douglas Coastguard rescue team was deployed to assist with a shoreline search for two divers who were reported as overdue surfacing after diving north of Douglas. There was thick fog in the area, but fortunately the divers were found safe and well by their own dive boat.

On Sunday afternoon Douglas Coastguard Rescue Officers were sent out to speak to children playing in the sea in thick fog banks, and in the evening the team were called following a report of a group of people seen on cliffs North of Douglas in darkness.

The group reached safety unaided.

Whilst none of the incidents turned out to be serious, the coastguard is always happy to check out any reports of people who may be in trouble at sea or on the coast, and early reports can often save lives.
