Police back road safety plan

by isleofman.com 11th April 2007
Police in the Isle of Man are welcoming the decision to impose a one-way traffic system on the Mountain road during TT.

The stretch from Ramsey Hairpin to Creg-ny-Baa has proved one of the busiest and most dangerous sections of the course in recent years.

It's hoped the one way scheme - in place for the entire TT fortnight - will quite simply save lives.

Inspector Derek Flint from the Roads Policing Unit says with tens of thousands of extra bikers on the Island's roads - it's a bold and practical move.

And he says even those who face longer journeys as a result should be in favour: (first audio clip)

The one-way scheme met with some opposition during a public consultation.

Director of Highways Bruce Hannay says they are now looking at how to ensure traffic keeps moving on the alternative routes to the north: (second audio clip)
