by isleofman.com 10th April 2007
A Manx-born soldier has been named as one of four killed by a bomb in Basra.

Kingsman Adam James Smith died on stretch of highway in the Hayaniyah district on the north-western outskirts of Basra when a massive bomb explosion wrecked his vehicle and left a three-foot crater.

Kingsman Smith served with the 2nd Battalion the Duke of Lancaster’s Regiment.

His father lives in the Island but is believed to have travelled to Liverpool to be with his family.

Kingsman Smith’s commanding officer said "He showed all the qualities of a reconnaissance soldier, dependable, determined and a real team player."
