Petrol being tested

by isleofman.com 6th April 2007
CI Newsagents says anybody who thinks they may have bought problem petrol from its forecourt in Athool Street in Peel should keep hold of their receipts.

Tests are still being carried out after some customers alleged they’d bought unleaded petrol tainted by diesel.

So far, no evidence of any contamination has been found but the compay says investigations are continuing.

Mel Warrender, deputy managing director of CI Newsagents, says all fuel now being sold at the site has been given a clean bill of health.

Mr Warrender says the pump in question remains closed while the Office of Fair Trading and Manx Petroleums carry out tests.
Samples have gone to laboratories both off and on the Island and test results are expected shortly.
But in the meantime, Mr Warrender says any customer with concerns should retain their receipts pending chemist’s reports.
The Shell forecourt affected is to sell premium branded petrol at a reduced price as a goodwill gesture to customers.
