Hope for the homeless

by isleofman.com 5th April 2007
There is a major step forward in the search for a solution to the Island's homeless problem.

That's the optimistic hope of those behind Shelter Isle of Man - a new branch of the charity, to be launched later this month.

It's being backed by the Salvation Army, local churches, the police and probation services.

It aims to find solution to a growing problem - at present around 40 people are homeless in the Douglas area - with some 300 families in need of assistance.

Over the past two years the Broadway Baptist Church has run a drop-in centre for homeless people during the winter months, but the need is still growing.
