Port Erin lifeboat called out

by isleofman.com 2nd April 2007
The public are being reminded to take proper precautions before heading out to sea.

The warning comes after Port Erin lifeboat was called out to go to the aid of a vessel yesterday evening (Sun)

The Atlantic 85 boat 'Muriel and Leslie' was launched after a report from a member of the public of a vessel in difficulty in the Fleshwick Bay area.

A rigid inflatable boat was found to be having mechanical trouble, but was able to proceed under its own power and escorted back to Peel Harbour.

As we head into the warmer months, the RNLI say people should remember a few basic safety tips before taking their boats out.

Those on-board should always wear lifejackets. Engine and fuel levels should be checked prior to departure, and someone on shore told of your destination. A means of calling for assistance if required should always be carried, and the prevailing weather and tides checked before the journey.
