Senior cops visit Island

by isleofman.com 29th March 2007
A group of ten senior police officers from as far afield as Malaysia and the Bahamas are beginning a two day tour of the Island - to see policing methods here first-hand.

The visit is part of a prestigious training course for officers run by the National Police Improvement Agency in the United Kingdom.

Police chiefs here are keen to show the visitors their wide range of capabilities.

Marian Kenny reports:

The police commanders are all at Superintendant, Major and Assistant Commander level. They represent nations including the Cayman Islands, Botswana , Saudi Arabia, and the Phillippines.

They want to see how a small police force provides specialist services - such as firearms, roads policing and computer crime.

The Commanders will also visit Peel to see how the Manx force has formed partnerships with schools, youth workers and politicians.

Isle of Man deputy Chief Constable Mike Langdon (pictured) says the force is privileged to host the visit and proud to show its specialist capabilities while operating 24 hours a day 7 days a week.
