Abducted children initiative

A new police scheme aims to alert the public to kidnapped children who may be in danger.

Child Rescue Alerts will be issued by officers if they believe a child has been abducted and there’s a real risk to their safety.

Through an immediate blitz of publicity, the police hope they’ll be able to trace a missing child very quickly.

PC Tony Glenn says the scheme doesn’t include children who are missing from home – only those cases where it’s believed they’ve been kidnapped.

He explained what would happen in such an event:
