Douglas Head redevelopment

by isleofman.com 26th March 2007
Local Government and Environment Minister John Shimmin says a house on Douglas Head can be redeveloped – but with protection for the surrounding open space.

DLGE’s planning committee had refused to give permission in principle for a new house to replace Gloccamorra on the site.

Planning inspector David Ward held a site visit before opening his inquiry into the appeal earlier this year.

He said the land was appropriate for a house but warned nearby open land should not be built on:

Mr Ward said more detailed plans would have to be submitted before any work could take place, giving the opportunity to impose planning conditions at a later date.

But he recommended imposing a condition on the existing application limiting the size and scope of the site.

Mr Ward said in his view the appeal should succeed and the original decision of the planning committee overturned.

DLGE Minister John Shimmin agreed and granted permission subject to conditions.
