Increased steam trains for TT to be mooted

The Isle of Man Steam Railway is a vintage treasure - a picturesque way to travel - but as a means of getting from A to B in a hurry - it might not be your first choice.

But it could come into its own as a means of getting large crowds into Douglas from the south, during this year's centenary TT.

With thousands of extra bikers due in the Island, tourism chiefs are considering whether additional commuter trains could be laid-on, to ease pressure on the roads.

Tourism Minister Adrian Earnshaw says the idea deserves further thought (audio file attached):
