Fire safety warning

by isleofman.com 24th March 2007
The fire service is reminding the public of the dangers of chip pans.

It follows a fire at Ballafurt Road in Port Erin on Thursday evening when a flat was smoked logged and fire damage caused to the kitchen, as well as smoke damage to the remainder of the property.

The occupier did extinguish the fire and a fire crew attended.

Station officer John Murtagh says if you have a chip pan fire, try and turn off the cooker if safe to do so and do not attempt to use a wet tea towel as it can increase the fire’s severity.

Then leave the room, closing the door behind you, get everyone out of the house and call the fire service, ensuring you stay outdoors.
