Passport debacle

by isleofman.com 23rd March 2007
Anyone applying for British Citizenship from May last year has had to take either a citizenship test, or a language course in order to be eligible.

The test comprises 24 questions; 18 about life in the United Kingdom, and 6 specifically about the Isle of Man.

Josie Quillin from Castletown is originally from Ireland but married a Manxman and has been living here for 47 years. She recently applied for a British Passport, and was asked to pay fifty pounds to take the test.

Josie told John Hines she barely knew any of the answers:(clip 1)

Karen Scott is Head of Crown and External Relations with the Manx Government, she explained more about the test:(clip 2)
