Steam trains back on track

The sights, sounds and smells of the steam railway brought memories flooding back for passers-by at Douglas station earlier today.

The 2007 season starts a week on Monday - and to mark that, the Railway's number four engine was steamed-up to take the Lieutenant Governor Sir Paul and Lady Haddacks on a special trip along the lines to Port Soderick.

The Governor did what many a schoolboy has dreamed of - he rode alongside the driver and fireman on the hallowed footplate.

Sir Paul was clearly impressed with this piece of Manx transport heritage:
