'Scrap Alcohol Strategy' - MHK

There's a call for the Chief Minister's Alcohol Strategy to be scrapped.

Rushen MHK Quintin Gill says the ?4.5 million it's cost would be better spent providing services for those affected, rather than 'political wallpaper'.

In response, Mr Brown says a service-driven strategy would ignore the fact alcohol misuse is a genuinely strategic and cross-cutting issue across a range of departments.

He also points to the praise it received in the findings of the Inquiry into the Care of Young People.

But Mr Gill says he shares the scepticism of many of his former colleagues in the department of health and social security, who believe there must be more effective ways of dealing with the problem:
