Minimum wage rumpus

The Treasury Minister has been heavily criticised in Tynwald for not doing anything about employers paying staff less than the minimum wage.

Allan Bell said the Treasury was aware of about 400 employees earning less than the minimum, through information provided by the Earnings Survey.

But Mr Bell said any action against the employers would be down to the DTI, and Treasury was unable to pass on the details because that would be against Statistics Act regulations, unless the employer gave written consent.
