Union official criticises Treasury

Actions of the Manx Treasury are being questioned as the debate over the civil service pensions black hole continues.

Ten days ago it was announced workers in the smaller government pensions schemes would face shortfalls of up to a 45 per cent.

The Water Authority has been told it will have to find an extra ?500,000 a year to fulfil its staff pension commitments; Manx Radio has been instructed by Treasury to find up to ?100,000 more a year, while the board of the Manx Electricity Authority had to budget an extra ?1 million a year to keep the pension scheme running.

Many civil servants in the Isle of Man are represented by Frank Allen, the National secretary of United Kingdom trade union, Prospect.
