Pensions shortfall - MLC gets Treasury response

Treasury has known for some time about the size of the pension deficit facing Manx Radio, according to the Chairman of a recent Tynwald Select Committee.

Manx Radio Chairman David North commented recently that it seemed strange for Government to have agreed budgets and other financial details with the station, without revealing that the company would have to find between eighty and a ?100,000 more every year.

The figure for the MEA, part of the same pension scheme, is almost ?1 million a year, and for the Water Authority around ?500,000 - although both organisations say they will find the extra money required without passing on the costs to consumers.

MLC Pam Crowe says that during the 'Value for Money' Committee debate on the radio station, she asked about the pension liability - but only got a written response a couple of days ago:
