Contractors will be reminded of the dangers of working around underground services at a presentation this evening (Thurs).

It's being given by the Joint Utilities Group, made up of the Manx Electricity Authority, Manx Gas, the Water Authority, the Department of Transport and Douglas Corporation, at the Hilton Hotel.

According to statistics, 15 deaths were recorded in the United Kingdom last year due to accidents concerning contractors and underground or overhead services.

The presentation, which is backed by the Health and Safety Inspectorate and the Employers Federation, will highlight good working practices with the message 'It's your health. It's your safety'.
