Ben-my-Chree involved in rescue operation

by isleofman.com 15th March 2007
The Ben my Chree was diverted in its overnight sailing from Heysham in order to assist in a rescue mission in the Irish Sea.

Two crew of the cabin cruiser 'Kerry Lee' which was bound for Douglas, had been struck down with severe sea sickness, so the boat contacted Liverpool coastguard for help.

The Ben-my-Chree was the closest vessel in the area and was asked to stand by to offer assistance

The two ill crewmen were airlifted off the Kerry Lee by a helicopter from RAF Valley and taken to Furness hospital in Cumbria.

Watch Officer at Liverpool coastguard Brian George says sea sickness can be a very debilitating illness:

The ferry eventually arrived in Douglas harbour at around 8.15am - over 2 hours behind schedule.
