A forty five year old man has been jailed by Deemster Doyle for a total of ten years.

David Joseph Goodman, of Durrant Cottage, Liverpool, admitted eight drugs offences, four of producing drugs and four of possessing drugs with intent to supply.

Rachel Braidwood, prosecuting, said the defendant was detained at the Sea Terminal on the evening of July 24th of last year.

The spare tyre of his car was x-rayed which showed a number of packages. The tyre was opened at police headquarters which showed 26.8 grammes of cannabis bush, 295.9 grammes of cocaine, 4,944 ecstasy tablets and 54.7 grammes of ketamine and benzadine. The drugs had a street value of ?53,397.

The defendant's advocate, Darren Talbot, said the defendant borrowed ?3000 and when unable to repay it was forced by people who knew he was coming to the Island to bring the drugs, or have his house burnt down and parents killed. He was most remorseful said Mr Talbot, and had simply acted as a courier.

Deemster Doyle said drugs were an increasing problem on the Island and the courts would impose deterrent sentences
