Manx Workshop for the Disabled safe

by isleofman.com 13th March 2007
An MHK has vowed to keep a watching brief to ensure the long-term future of the Manx Workshop for the Disabled is secured.

Following protracted negotiations, the DHSS agreed a fortnight ago to cover the whole cost of refurbishing the proposed new premises at the old Noble's Hospital.

It means the jobs of the disabled workforce are now safe and there could also be an opportunity for more disabled people to obtain useful employment.

North Douglas member John Houghton, who was highly critical of the time it took to make a decision, says he will continue to watch developments with interest:

The delay behind the refurbishment and relocation of the Workshop is to be investigated by a Tynwald select committee.
