Chester Street incident

by isleofman.com 9th March 2007
Police are investigating what they say could have been a serious incident at Chester Street car park in Douglas.

A shopping trolley was pushed off the top level of the car park, narrowly missing a member of Shoprite staff who was in the loading bay 50 feet below. The incident happened at around 10am on Wednesday morning.

Officers say if the trolley had hit someone there is no doubt they would have been seriously hurt or even killed. Shoprite have offered a reward of ?500 for information leading to the conviction of the offenders.

It's thought the trolley was pushed off the top of the car park by two teenage boys.

PC Gareth Leather from the Douglas Neighbourhood policing team says police together with the Department of Local Government and the Environment are currently working to make improvements in and around the car park to combat this type of behaviour.

He calls the action of the teenage boys "irresponsible and dangerous" and is urging them to come forward and contact police.
