Accidental death verdict

by isleofman.com 7th March 2007
An inquest into the death of a 42 year old Douglas man found in his hotel room heard he'd had problems with heroin and alcohol for a number of years.

Coroner Michael Moyle recorded a verdict of accidental death on David John Snape as he'd been taking methadone to treat his drug addiction at the time.

Mr Snape's body was discovered by police at the Cavern Hotel on Clarence Hill on the 13th of February.

The hotel's manager said she was worried about Mr Snape as he hadn't been seen for about three days.

The officers who attended got permission to enter Mr Snape's room, where they found his body lying next to the door.

A post mortem found the cause of death to be methadone and alcohol poisoning, with a blood alcohol level of 245 milligrammes.

The court heard Mr Snape had been treated for his alcohol and heroin addictions for about 6 years and also suffered from Hepatitis C.

In delivering his verdict, Mr Moyle said deaths of this nature, which would have been headline news 20 years ago, were unfortunately becoming more prevalent on the Island.
