Taxi troubles

by isleofman.com 6th March 2007
The practice of selling-on taxi licence plates has been condemned in the House of Keys.

Michael MHK David Cannan said he hoped the Government wasn't condoning a racket, after referring to a plate sold for ?40,000 which had been issued less than 18 months previously.

The matter arose during questions about the work of the Road Traffic Licensing Committee, which has responsibility for licensing the taxi trade.

Chief Minister Tony Brown pointed out the Licensing Committee is an independent body set up to avoid political interference, but he agreed to seek the views of the RTLC on the sale of plates.
