Ballanard Road closure questioned

by isleofman.com 6th March 2007
The issue of the closure of Ballanard Road was raised in the House of Keys this morning (Tues)

It has caused concern and annoyance among local residents as there had been a distinct lack of advance notice.

Transport Minister David Anderson (pictured) told the House that road traffic regulations require a notice of intention to close a road to be printed in a local newspaper at least a week before the making of an order.

The contractor carrying out the sewer work had originally intended to complete the job without closing the road, but unfortunately this had not been possible.

Mr Anderson said his Department apologised for the inconvenience which had been caused, and that they would now be reviewing their procedures to ensure that contractors were aware that they need to apply for a closure 21 days in advance.
