Celtic league criticise Legislative Council process

by isleofman.com 5th March 2007
The protracted nature of the recent Legislative Council elections is exposing 'all that's rotten' in Manx politics, according to the Celtic League.

The pressure group describes the situation as a 'farce'.

On March 13, MHK's will vote for the fourth time to fill the one remaining seat in the Upper Chamber. The three candidates all stood during last Tuesday's attempt - and fell well short of the number of votes required.

The Celtic League also says both the 'man on the street' and some MHK's are irritated by the fact many of those proposed did not seize the opportunity to 'serve the people' by contesting the popularly elected General Election in November.

However, it says this legislative debacle may bring forward constitutional reform.
