Sky 'phone scam' warning

by isleofman.com 2nd March 2007
A North Douglas MHK is warning people to be vigilant after a number of Island residents have been targeted by a telephone scam.

John Houghton says one of his constituents was phoned by someone with a "well spoken voice", who told her her Sky TV insurance was running out that day.

The caller said if she wanted to keep the renewal premium at a lower cost she should give out her bank card details there and then so her insurance could be renewed right away.

The lady refused and called Mr Houghton, saying three of her friends had also been contacted.

The Office of Fair Trading has been informed.
