Gawne - suspended sentence

by isleofman.com 1st March 2007
An 18 year old woman who broke another woman's nose has been given a three month prison sentence suspended for twelve months by the High Bailiff.

Louise Catherine Gawne of Mount View Road, Onchan, appeared for sentence after admitting assault causing actual bodily harm.

The incident occurred on the defendant's 18th birthday at the Outback on November 25th. She was on the dance floor and lashed out at Gemma Nigella Bartley when she accidentally bumped into her.

Her advocate, Darren Talbot, said Gawne accepted she had drunk too much, and when she was pushed struck out in a reckless manner. She had now apologised for her actions and was ashamed.

Mr Moyle said such actions were caused by people drinking to excess. He ordered her to pay ?1000 compensation and imposed a ban not to enter licenced premises for four months.
