Cost of Manx prisoners in UK

The Manx government is currently paying ?177,000 a year to keep six offenders, convicted of crimes in the Isle of Man, at prisons in the United Kingdom.

Home Affairs Minister Martyn Quayle told the House of Keys three of them were Manx born and three were living in the Isle of Man when they offended.

He said the United Kingdom goverment paid the costs when UK prisoners, convicted in the Island, chose to serve their sentences in the their own country.

Mr Quayle said in recent times only IOM and United Kingdom prisoners had been transferred to jails in the UK, but arrangements were in hand for offenders from further afield:
