Legislative Council election...again

by isleofman.com 27th February 2007
Members of the House of Keys will make a third attempt to fill the remaining vacancy on the Legislative Council today.

Only one candidate from the previous round remains in the contest - while two new contenders have come forward.

They're joined by a former MLC and MHK, who dropped out of the contest after the first round but is now back in the fray.

Marian Kenny reports:

(Text of attached audio)
Peel commissioner John Lightfoot is hoping persistence pays off after failing to attract enough support at the last two ballots.

Since then David Owens a former Laxey commissioner - and member of the Ramsey board Richard Radcliffe - have thrown their hats into the ring.

Leonard Singer will have re-done his sums and may believe more votes will come his way today.

Before the election, the Keys will consider 13 questions tabled by just two members.

Among the issues - Michael MHK David Cannan will raise the vibration problems caused at White Hoe pumping station.

The qualifications of the new prison's Governor - and the impact of the airport runway extension - are among subjects on the mind of Onchan member Peter Karran.
