Reasurances wanted over new prison

Liberal Vannin party leader Peter Karran (pictured) says he wants reassurances the new prison in Jurby will not only help prisoners, but also be cost-effective.

On Tuesday in the House of Keys, he’ll ask Home Affairs minister Martyn Quayle about the numbers of prisoners transferred to serve sentences in the UK.

Mr Karran says he’s worried about how much sending prisoners off-Island costs the government.

And he says he wants the figures made public in the interests of openness and transparency (audio file attached)
